That has no impact on the default permissions (especially in relation to parent
folder), it only changes them after the fact. He is talking about Samba, not
Linux.

To the OP - please read the fine manual that comes with Samba, it will save you
hours of guessing. I was able to find the option (by searching for 'parent') in
about 30 seconds. You need to set the option 'inherit permissions = yes' for
the share...
