Looking for help to achieve the changes you want? If so, the
Sheila McKechnie Foundation’s support programme is for you.
The Foundation is committed to equipping under
resourced and novice campaigners with the skills needed to make their voice
heard and achieve positive change. Whether you are working to change Government
Policy or you’re campaigning for extra recycling services in your area,
the Foundation can help you make that extra impact.
Of the 12 categories in 2008, there are two categories
for campaigners aged 18-24 - Global Action in memory of Guy Hughes and Young
Activist. Global Action is for young campaigners working on international
development and global justice issues and Young Activist is for young
campaigners working on community/local to the UK issues.
The Foundation has been set up to commemorate the
life of Dame Sheila McKechnie, a dedicated and effective campaigner, who spent
much of her life championing change. Sheila
empowered individuals to recognise and assert their rights, and made
governments and businesses understand, embrace and respond to the issues she
campaigned on.
The Foundation’s annual
awards programme gives people like you the advice and support needed to better influence
both local and national government. Programme participants receive 1:1
mentoring; opportunities to meet and shadow senior decision makers; and
coaching sessions with experts in your area.
This is a fantastic
opportunity for anyone actively seeking change on environmental issues to
develop expertise and learn how to take their campaign to the next level.
Applications for the 2008
awards open on 23 January 2008. For more information on the programme and how
