if i understand you good, then u have on domain.com installed Wordpress with .htaccess file, and in domain.com/subfolder you want to install cakephp?

so there i think, problem is wordpress's .htaccess...

It does though, as I'm using it to manage a WordPress install in the
root as well as another Cake app in a subfolder (without it's own
domain, it's being accessed via domain.com/subfolder).
