Question about Facets

Hi,

I've poured through the documentation and nowhere do I find definitions
for the following:

Facets,
Defined Facets,
Fixed Facets,

These are used by the methods:

XSSimpleTypeDefintion::getFacets()
XSSimpleTypeDefintion::getDefinedFacets()
XSSimpleTypeDefintion::getFixedFacets()

What exactly do these categories mean?
