19th APNIC Open Policy Meeting
21 - 25 February 2005
Kyoto, Japan

Dear APNIC members and friends,

This is an update announcement about APNIC 19 with reminders of some
important events and dates. APNIC 19, being held in conjunction with APRICOT
2005, is now only a month away. If you have not registered yet, please do as
soon as possible, see below for details of the early bird registration

1.  Early bird registration 
Please register before 26 January 2005 to take advantage of the early-bird
discount. Registration for APNIC 19, including the APNIC Member Meeting
(AMM), and APRICOT 2005 sessions, can now be made on the APRICOT 2005
registration site at:


APNIC members also receive an additional 25 percent discount by choosing the
"APNIC Member" option and supplying your APNIC account name. If you do not
know you account name, please contact <[email protected]>.

2.  Meeting programme
APNIC is working closely with the APRICOT organisers to deliver a
first-class programme of conference and training sessions. APNIC is
organising one of the tutorial and conference tracks.

The overall meeting programme schedules are as follows:

     Pre-conference workshops    18 - 20 February
     Tutorials                   21 - 22 February
     Conference                  23 - 24 February
     APNIC Member Meeting             25 February

APNIC tutorial tracks include Dynamics of the policy development process, An
Update on SPAM prevention and ISP security design and implementation
strategy. The conference tracks are IPv6, NIR, IX, DNS operations, Policy,
Database, and Routing SIGs. In addition, the UNDP's Asia Pacific Development
Information Programme (APDIP) will facilitate a special discussion session
on Internet governance on Tuesday 22 February 2005. This session aims to
obtain the views of technology practitioners in the Asia Pacific on the
policy needs and priorities for emerging Internet technologies and technical

3.  Nominations for Executive Council
Four positions on the APNIC Executive Council (EC) will become vacant in
March 2005. An open election to fill these vacancies will be held during
APNIC Member Meeting, in Kyoto on Friday 25 February 2005. Nominations must
be submitted by close of business Friday 11 February 2005. The nomination

4.  Visa requirements
It is strongly recommended that you contact your local Japanese Consular
Offices to determine whether or not a visa is required to enter Japan as
soon as possible because some visa applications can take up to ONE MONTH to
be processed.

For visa applications, you are required to complete the meeting registration
and hotel reservation before submitting the application. The APRICOT 2005
Japan Executive Committee Office can assist with visa applications and

5.  Call for informational presentations
The deadline for accepting policy proposals at APNIC 19 has now passed. 

'Informational' presentations can still be accepted. Please send these to
the appropriate SIG chair, cc'ing <[email protected]>, as soon as possible.
