My friend's laptop will only go to Stand By or Hibernate. Is there a

I Googled and could find nothing.
TIA.
What about new desktop shortcut with this as the target:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
Thanks, but I've already done that one. My friend's wife said that her
daughter's computer was set up to turn off when the lid was closed.
IIRC, some older laptops will do that. My friend's wife thought it was
a program of some kind that made it possible. Hoped somebody knew
about a freeware that would do it.
right click on the Desktop and select properties
Screen saver | Power tab
Thanks, but I know all about "Power Options Properties". You click on
the "Advanced" tab and there's a dropdown for what happens when you
close the lid on a laptop (the option isn't there for a desktop). As
shown on this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/powermgmt.mspx
just a little past half way down, you have three options for "When I
close the lid of my portable computer":
1. Do nothing
2. Stand by
3. Hibernate
What I'm looking for is something that will add the option to "Shut down".
By the way, here's one for you - Regardless of what kind of computer you
have, desktop or laptop, *don't* create a power scheme and then try to
delete it. You'll usually lose all the power schemes except for two very
basic ones. Getting them back requires going into the registry and
deleting some stuff. Don't ask me how I know this.
