Cool.

I realize that Jive software products aren't open source and that you're using an ancient version.

We'd like to go with an open source solution, yes.
While I'm a very big advocate of open source and also working towards removing the closed binaries. I almost find it ironic to mandate the site be driven by an open source solution when opensolaris still ships with non-OSI approved parts. (I guess one step at a time..)

However, replacing it with only a wiki instead of the newer version (which is awesome) seems strange. (Pardon some ignorance since I only know a part of the plan)

XWiki is not replacing Jive. The two are unrelated. We will replace Jive as a forum solution after the site transition to XWiki. We will initiate a rigorous requirements process much like we did in the past for SCM and website content management (wiki): Background on those two here:

http://opensolaris.org/os/community/web/restructuring/wiki_req/
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/tools/scm/dscmreqdoc/

Current website transition plans here:

http://opensolaris.org/os/about/roadmap/
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/web/
As managing a smaller scale, but similar community I have a laundry list of feedback and quite interested to help out where I can. I know one of the sub/side projects for Wikipedia may have (had?) similar requirements a while ago. I can ping the developer and inquire what progress has been made. One of the first things that comes to mind is supporting openid for auth.opensolaris.org. (maybe I missed this?) I can make more detailed notes later if desired.

Thanks
