I assume from below that Active State Perl for Win32 is compiled to use ITHREADS...

Compile-time options: MULTIPLICITY USE_ITHREADS USE_LARGE_FILES
                      USE_SITECUSTOMIZE PERL_IMPLICIT_CONTEXT
                      PERL_IMPLICIT_SYS

 

I have heard that IMPLICIT_SYS is slow.  Can this be changed?
