If using XP you should already have Movie Maker. You can import via Firewire, in theory you should also be able to import via USB but in practice doesn't work well. Movie Maker will let you edit, add titles, effects etc. and will output in a number of formats but not to dvd, you'll need 3rd party software to do that. Uleads DVD Movie factory is an easy to use program but limited.
