That'll teach you not to fall for a phishing email and give your password

The seller wrote to me
"Please be informed that Paypal users have been receiving emails
confirming a purchase from our company. This email is a hoax and
should be ignored."
Seller did not accept the payment.
Paypal even waived the requirement of me having to authenticate my
affidavit.
Paypal has not come back to me with explanation how it happened.
After my credit card got debited I changed my Paypal password, which
paypal wrote to me was right thing to do.
But I also got my credit card replaced, this it seems Paypal has not
liked.
Evidently Paypal keeps playing with customers' credit cards.
Why else Paypal would have written to twice now at my username( login
email-id) telling me "It has come to our attention that your PayPal®
account information needs to be updated as part of our continuing
commitment to protect your account and to reduce the instance of fraud
on our website." and when I go to update account information and give
the username(one to which Paypal has written twice to do Update) it
tells me there is no record of that username and I must reregister.
Activating Paypal link in the letter makes my AntiVirus software catch
a trojan.
