Could anyone please tell me how, after buying a second hand PC, i can get
rid of the passworded Admin logon that is already there. Or do I have to
re-install XP, i'd rather not do the latter, but if ya can tell me how to
delete the current Admin logon, and NOT lose all the files and folders that
go with it.
THANKS -
winXP PRO, compaq , 10gig,128 ram

Boot using the install CD, optionally select to delete the partition(s) and then recreate them, select to format them, and install a fresh copy of the operating system. It is likely that you do not have a legal license for any non-freeware software that is installed on the polluted hard drive. You also don't know what other crap may be there, like malware, viruses, or illegal porn. Best is to wipe the drive(s) and install a fresh copy of the OS. This will also let you know if there is a problem in activating the OS (i.e., to check that you got a legitimate product key and that you can activate the OS) rather than finding down the road that the seller only gave you hardware which included a polluted hard drive but no software.
